Press Release on Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship
The Nehru-Wangchuck Scholarship was instituted on 19 June, 2009 with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the Government of India (GoI) with the primary objective to provide opportunities for nationals of Bhutan to undertake studies at premier Indian Institutions and ultimate objective of furthering the strong relationship between two countries.
The Scholarship is open to all nationals of Bhutan who meet the scholastic rigour of the premier Indian institutes to undertake studies for courses leading to graduate and postgraduate/diplomas, with priorities especially accorded to professional postgraduate studies.
In order to attract the best and the brightest Bhutanese to study in the best institutions of learning in India, the Royal Civil Service Commission is pleased to inform the following changes with effect from the 2015-16 academic year:
1. Selected candidates shall get the opportunity to study at the top institutes/universities in India;
2. Awardees shall automatically become member of Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship Alumni Association; and
3. Increase of monthly stipend from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 and a one-time establishment allowance of Rs. 10,000 for the first month of Scholarship;
The above changes will be applicable starting from the academic year 2015-16 intake and thereafter.
The scholarship announcement for 2015 intake together with the eligibility criteria will be made soon and all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. The courses are expected to start at the earliest from spring 2015 and there onwards.
