“Healthy Civil Service, Healthy Nation”. Civil Servants Marathon 2019- August 10, 2019
The RCSC organized a Marathon for civil servants on 10th August, 2019 as part of its program to promote the health and well-being of the civil servants. It is an annual advocacy program for civil servants on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
The objective is to:
Encourage, inspire and motivate civil servants to improve their mental and physical health through running and exercise – for fit civil service; and
To enhance networking among fellow civil servants.
The theme of this year’s marathon is “Healthy Civil Service, Healthy Nation”. The runners have been grouped into three categories:
- Category 1: 45 years and above: 10 km (men)
- Category 2: Below 45 years: 15 km (men)
- Category 3: Women: 10 km
There were 2025 runners who have participated in the marathon out of which 837 were women civil servants. We felt encouraged by the number of turnouts and more so from women. A total of 260 civil servants who have participated in the marathon were above 45 years of age. The RCSC have also invited the retired civil servants for the event both as participants and also as guests of honour. This is a part of RCSC’s concerted efforts to engage with retired civil servants.
The prizes and trophies were awarded to winners of all categories including the consolation prizes up to top 40th position. The certificate of participation was also being awarded to all runners who have participated in the marathon.
The RCSC, henceforth, plan to make this marathon an annual event for all civil servants in the light of promoting healthy civil service. We are also hopeful that such programs will enable networking among civil servants and enhance public service delivery at large and reaffirm our service to the ‘Tsa-wa-sum’.
This Marathon was organized with the support of the BAAF, under BOC and refreshments and prizes for participants was supported by HM Secretariat, Presto Bhutan, Universal Genuine Spare Parts, BoB, NPPF, Bhutan Agro Industries Ltd, The Great Learning Tree (Education Consultancy and Placement Firm), Access Bhutan Tours and Trek, and Keys to Bhutan.
